Nicki Minaj continued her public support for Donald Trump on Sunday, joining the president at a midterms rally in Michigan. The 43-year-old rapper attended the event at McMorran Place Sports & Entertainment Center in Port Huron, Michigan, on October 25, after sharing videos from aboard Air Force One.
Trump’s onstage praise for Minaj
While on stage, Trump addressed viral comments he had previously made about Republican Ohio senator Jon Husted, dismissing them as “fake news” and saying he had only been joking. He then turned his attention to Minaj, praising her in front of the crowd and asking her to stand up.
“We love Nicki. She’s been with us for a long time,” Trump said, to cheers from the audience. He added that he hoped Minaj was not insulted by the remark.
A press secretary joke on Air Force One
Before the rally, White House communications director Steven Cheung shared a video with Minaj aboard the plane, joking that she could be the next White House press secretary. “Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!” he captioned the post.
In the video, Cheung asked Minaj why she thought the economy was booming under Trump. “We have a president that understands economics, first of all,” she responded.
Minaj’s evolving public support
Minaj’s appearance at the rally is the latest step in her increasingly public support for Trump. Earlier this year, she opened up about why she initially stayed quiet about backing him — and what ultimately led her to speak out.
Just last month, the rapper also addressed criticism over her support, pushing back against detractors. Her Michigan appearance, complete with an Air Force One ride and an onstage moment with the president, underscored how firmly she has embraced that role.
The Port Huron stop was a midterms rally, putting Minaj squarely in the political spotlight as the campaign season heats up. Her presence alongside the president — from the Air Force One videos to the onstage moment — made the appearance one of the most talked-about celebrity-politics crossovers of the weekend.
