Prime Video has unveiled a new trailer for Blade Runner 2099, giving fans their latest look at the limited series starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer. The trailer premiered at New York Comic Con, building anticipation for a return to one of science fiction’s most famous worlds.
A fugitive story set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049
The series is set 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049, in a reborn Los Angeles. At the center of the story is Cora, played by Schafer, a fugitive who takes on a final identity as a Blade Runner. Her mission forces her into an uneasy partnership with Olwen, played by Yeoh, a near-death Replicant. Together, the pair must hunt down a runaway who is hiding a truth that could bring the city crashing down.
The premise keeps the franchise’s signature mix of mystery and moral tension: in this world, the line between human and Replicant has always been blurred, and the truth Cora and Olwen are chasing may be more dangerous than the fugitive they are hunting.
Who stars in Blade Runner 2099
Yeoh and Schafer lead the cast, with Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben also starring as series regulars. The franchise is based on Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the book that inspired the original Blade Runner film and its sequel.
Silka Luisa serves as showrunner, creator and executive producer on the limited series, steering a story that expands the franchise’s universe while staying rooted in its noir atmosphere.
When Blade Runner 2099 premieres
Prime Video released a first trailer for the series in July, and the new trailer arrived at New York Comic Con as the premiere date draws closer. All eight episodes of Blade Runner 2099 will premiere on November 25 on Prime Video, meaning viewers will be able to watch the complete story in one go.
With Yeoh and Schafer leading a fugitive chase through a reborn Los Angeles, the limited series is shaping up to be one of the season’s most talked-about streaming events.
